My life is interspersed with cycling, working and competitive robotics with my son Galen. Last year our team went to the FIRST Robotics world championships and the team was ranked 52nd out of 5,000 teams worldwide.
This will be my second time riding across Canada to support this great cause! I was a National Rider in 2017 and will be riding again in September. My first ride across Canada was emotional and inspirational, and meeting the kids and families across the country that are dealing with childhood cancer really brought home the importance of raising funds to research and hopefully one day, defeat this terrible disease.
I am blessed to have a healthy family and honored to have been able to ride with many who have lived through their children’s fight with cancer. These people became my “wheel family” and their stories of dealing with cancer, are both inspirational and deeply saddening, particularly for those who have passed on. My personal touch with childhood cancer is through my nephew who was diagnosed with stage 4 Neuroblastoma just two weeks before his third birthday. Spending 7 months in and out of Sick Kids in Toronto, enduring surgeries, chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. He is one of the fortunate ones to have survived.
I look forward to riding again with some old friends and some new ones as we continue the fight against childhood cancer in all its forms. Please help by donating and follow us as we ride across the country in September 2019.
