Why do I ride?
My wife Angela and I are very fortunate to have three healthy, happy children who are now young adults. We have not had to suffer the diagnosis, treatment and, in some cases, the trauma of loosing a child to cancer. I ride because I can. In doing so I hope to make a difference in the lives of the children & families impacted by cancer.
Are we making a difference? You bet we are! Check out these staggering facts!
Since 2003 the Coast To Coast Against Cancer Foundation has distributed $44 million to the fight against kids cancer! As part of the Foundation’s events, The Sears National Kids Cancer Ride will fund research and other programs that improve the lives of children living with and beyond cancer.
Are we making progress in the battle? ABSOLUTELY!!
In the early 1950s, less than 10 per cent of childhood cancer patients could be cured. Today, 80 per cent of children diagnosed with cancer become long-term survivors and the majority of them are considered cured.
Is there more to do? Indeed!
No child or parent should have to hear those dreaded words! Today 60 per cent of survivors have to deal with the side effects of the impacts due to the trauma of treating their cancer. The Sears National Kids Cancer Ride will fund research and help provide other programs that improve the lives of children living with and beyond cancer.
What about this epic event:
Team Chase is an 8-man Sears National Kids Cancer Ride team. We will be embarking on a 9-day, coast to coast cycling adventure to raise funds for a world beyond kids cancer. On September 14th we will begin our journey from Vancouver and nine days later will end our ride in Halifax, riding 24 hours a day and travelling up to 650 kilometres daily. We will join the other 36 National Riders on the final day and finish the adventure together, as one united team, 42 riders strong. Not only will we test ourselves physically but we have also set a fundraising goal of $150,000.
What can you do?
Join the fight! Without you nothing can happen. Sponsor me and Team Chase to raise funds for this important cause. Consider joining the event as a volunteer or rider. Spread the love, spread the word. Together we can and do make a difference.
