Hi I’m Jeff Rushton and I’m once again riding across Canada for children with cancer
In 2003, I was part of a team of six cyclists and some amazing volunteers who rode across Canada to raise funds for childhood cancer. It was a life-altering experience and was the beginning of an amazing journey that started the Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation. Now, 13 years later that little idea has grown into a Foundation that has helped thousands of people get involved in raising funds and awareness for childhood cancer programs and research in Canada. I am proud of the amazing team and community of supporters who by the end of 2017 have raised and distributed $50 million dollars to help children live with and beyond cancer.
In 2016, inspired by my daughter, I return and completed the National Ride with my amazing daughter Brooklyn. It was a journey of a lifetime that brought our family even closer together as Brooklyn and I rode side by side across Canada and together raised just under $150,000.
So what is up in 2017? Well, given it IS the 10th anniversary of the Sears National Kids Cancer Ride, and given my life dictates I can’t take off the full 3 weeks required to do the ride in a “normal fashion” I thought why not try to recreate the 2003 ride with some of the incredible riders and volunteers who have been part of the journey over these 13 years.
So departing on or about September 14, 2017 myself and 7 other riders supported by ten amazing volunteers will recreate 2003 by riding 24 hours a day covering the straight shot 6,000 km route in approximately 8 and ½ days to meet up with the full national rider team in Halifax on the last day.
My journey with this Foundation since 2003 has given deep meaning to my life. I am so grateful for healthy, thoughtful, grounded, remarkable children, Skylar and Brooklyn and for the loving support of Diane, the love of my life and wife of 31 years. Collectively we will never lose sight of the reason for our commitment: the 1,500 children in Canada who are diagnosed with cancer each every year, and the 10,000 survivors currently living with the after effects of these disease.
Please support our commitment and help us make a difference for those children.
