National Kids Cancer Ride

NKCR Day 18 – We Made It!

Day 18 – Lower Sackville to Halifax.

Our final day started off with a dedication to all the kids we’ve recognized and met along the journey. A fitting dedication for our last day on the road. An emotional roller coaster along the way for sure. To see some of these kids and the battles they are facing will forever keep me inspired to try and make a difference. So many thanks to all that have taken the time to meet us along the way and share their stories. Our final morning circle….

Our stop at IWK…..

A beautiful September morning greeted us with sunshine and 16 degrees. What a welcome change from a few days ago at -1 degrees. Our final day took us back west to Tantallon and then south to Peggy’s Cove. A great stop with lots of tourists showing their appreciation for our dedication and accomplishments.

We continued on to Halifax with a stop at the IWK. Our last stop before our final 2 kms Halifax Harbour . I arrived at the parking area for the waterfront – pulled up to the bike rack and to my complete surprise my wife Lisa was there to greet me. What an amazing surprise as she wasn’t supposed to make the trip to Halifax. Her support along the way from our trip to Vancouver for the start,  to meeting me in Toronto to now being here in Halifax…… WOW I’m one lucky guy!

What a great feeling to make it to the end. We walked with our bikes to the beach for the front wheel dip. We also threw one of the rocks we picked up in BC into the Atlantic. For me the final dip was the ultimate goal accomplished.

I’m glad I made this journey. So many incredible people along the way. To the riders – we jelled so well – it made the cycling portion so much fun. To the Volunteers – you guys were all so amazing – your hard work through such long days to support us is so much appreciated. Heres to all the great people we met along the way – the food you provided, the cheers and special signs from the kids, the hospital staff that showed us how we are making a difference, the property owners, that in the spur of the moment,  opened their doors once they heard what we were doing — all so inspiring! Most of all to the kids and their families  – you are why I am here – you are why I will continue to support this amazing cause.
