National Kids Cancer Ride

NKCR day 14 and 15.

Day 14  – Levis to Kamarouska

Our day started off with breakfast at the Louis Garneau head office in St. Augustine Quebec. We were joined by Louis himself.  We shuttled from there to our start point in Levis. Our dedication for the day was read and our ride for the day was for Sahara.

Our ride took us along the south shore of the St.Lawrence from Levis to Kamarouska.

Original plan was to ride to Riviere de Loupe but strong headwinds (go figure!) Slowed us down and we only made it to Kamarouska. Nice spot on the river for a photo opportunity.

We shuttled to Riviere de Loupe and had showers at a small trailer park and dinner at an Irish Pub. After dinner we shuttled to Grand Falls New Brunswick and spent the night in the parking lot for the local sports complex.

Day 15 – Grand Falls to Fredericton

Mike is one of our National Riders. He has completed this ride several times in the past. Mike lost his son Michael to cancer in 2006. A very emotional morning circle to dedicate our ride today to Michael.

Our ride started out with the thermometer reading -1 celcius. Bundle up time – what to wear for the weather each day is the trickiest part of each morning. Decisions were made and off we went through the cold foggy morning. As the sun made it’s way into the sky the day grew warmer and the fog lifted.

Our ride was to take us 193 kilometers to Frederiction. It turned into a beautiful day with bright sunshine and warmer temperatures. Our stop in Hartland was one of the highlights of the day. A cool ride across the world’s longest covered bridge

Some great climbs along the way and some great descents. Our longest descent was a tricky one as New Brunswick backroads arent famous for their smooth surfaces. A quiet back road with no cars for miles makes for a great place to have some fun.

Our ride into Fredericton was escorted by a couple of fire trucks. The route took us up some long climbs and across the St. John river. We arrived at our destination at the Regent mall with 199.6 kms on the Garmin.  Several loops around the parking lot and we reached 200 kms!
