National Kids Cancer Ride

NKCR Day 10 and 11

  1. Day 10 – Marathon to Wawa

Another day of rain and strong easterly winds (up to 60km gusts) kept us from completing our planned route today . We shuttled from Marathon to Wawa making our planned stops along the way. We improvised and had a little fun at our lunch stop at the White River Community Centre. Great picture below of our indoor peloton.

We ended up actually getting on the road for a small 30k out and back from Wawa later in the day.

Every mornings dedication ends with “today we ride for ……..” our group felt it was important to get even a small ride in for Caleb.

Our day ended with a shuttle ride from Wawa to Blind River Marine Park. A great spot right on the north shore of Lake Huron.

DAY 11 started with breakfast at the 17 Restaurant in Blind River. Hosts were amazing. Serving up made to order breakfast for 35 of us with super efficiency.

Today we rode for Justin. A feel good story for sure. Money spent on Cancer Research is working!

Well guess how our day started. Yes rain in the morning made for wet roads. We finally got westerly winds!  Our ride east to Serpent River along hwy 17 was pretty fast. During our shuttle from Serpent River to Whitefish Falls we were able to get some dry shoes and clothes on. We headed due south along hwy 6 towards the south end of Manitoulin Island.  Some nice climbs and westerly cross winds and great scenery

First time on the Ferry from Manitoulin to Tobermory. Wow we live in an amazing country! North shore of Lake Superior has stunning views, Manitoulin has some stunning views and our great lakes bring some amazing sunsets.

I feel very fortunate to be able to cycle across this great land and at the same time raise money for this ever so worthy cause.  It’s been 4 days since we met Amara at the Winnipeg Cancer Centre and it still brings tears to my eyes to think of what she is going through.

Kudos to Jeff and Fiona for two outstanding meals today. You guys rock!
