National Kids Cancer Ride

NKCR 2019 – BC Children’s Hospital

Today started off with a thought provoking and inspirational dedication by Dr. Stacey Marjerrison, who is a pediatric oncologist and fellow National Rider.  She shared the story of Anya Martinez and her family who bravely battled but unfortunately succumbed to Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.  She provided a great overview of how the money we raise goes to support the research that is making a difference in our fight to end Childhood Cancer.

After that, we saddled up and headed to the BC Children’s hospital where we heard the journey of our new honorary Team Captain Thar, who battled through and is now recovering from Neuroblastoma.

Every cancer journey is different, but Anya and Thar’s journey encapsulate the life and death struggle that thousands of families go through every day and is the reason “Why we ride”.

For me, Anya’s journey is a blunt reminder of how fortunate we have been in our daughter’s A.L.L journey to date, but we need to be vigilant… take one day at a time… and pray that we can deal with the uncertainties that life may throw in our way.

Tonight we make final preparations, as tomorrow is the official kickoff of our Cross Canada journey as we ride 149km from White Rock to Hope, BC and beyond.

We need and appreciate your support!  Every donation no matter how small will make a difference!
